A little background
When it comes to my skin routine, theres not much of one. Fortunately, my skin has always been pretty clear, and I’ve never has to use much of anything. My only routine was putting lotion on my face everyday and drinking a lot of water during the day. That was until I was introduced to castor oil.
Even though I don’t technically use it for my skin, it is still part of my nightly routine. I mostly use castor oil for my eyes. If you don’t know what castor oil is, it’s an oil contained from castor beans that can be very moisturizing. I found out about it two years ago and have been using it ever since for my eyelids, around my eyes, and most importantly, my eyelashes.
I’ve always had naturally, on the longer side, eyelashes but they were really sparse and I always wanted them to be thicker and darker. I saw a youtube video about a girl who had used just a little bit of castor oil every night on her eyelashes, and how they had looked before and after. I immediately knew I had to try it and ordered some off Amazon.
Castor oil…where to get it
Castor oil is super affordable and the bottle you get can last a really long time. I’ve been using mine for the past year and just only recently needed to order a new one. On Amazon, castor oil is only ten dollars and the one that I order comes with some spoolies but I prefer to use the disposable eyeliner brushes.
Some tips and my routine
The number one tip I would give you is that if you want to see results, you need to be consistent. The first year, I used it on and off, maybe twice a week, and then forget for a month, and then would get mad that nothing was happening. This past year, I’ve made sure to use it every single night.
So at night, my routine is that I will take off my mascara with Too Faced Mascara Melt Off. I’ve been using this for so long and I love it. You put it on your lashes for about thirty seconds and it makes it so much easier to take off waterproof mascara. After not having to tear out my lashes, I will apply the castor oil above and under my top lashes and then I will rub some with my finger on my eyelid and around the outer corners of my eyes. This makes the area around my eye and eye lids really soft. I also think I read somewhere that it helps with aging and wrinkles in the eye area. I don’t put it on my bottom lashes because when I go to sleep, the oil from my top lashes are touching the bottom ones anyways.
I swear by castor oil because in the last year that I have consistently been using it every single night, my eyelashes have become stronger, longer, thicker, and darker. What I love the most is how it makes my eyelashes stronger. I only use waterproof mascara which I know is bad and can break down your lashes, but castor oil helped moisturize them every night and I’ve seen no breakage so far. Also, I don’t know if its just me, but for some reason my mascara goes on better in the morning when I use castor oil the night before. My lashes are smoother and softer and conditioned and I think that helps the application.
Overall, I am so happy that I started using castor oil. It really is so great for my lashes and its something that will always be a part of my everyday routine!
